Content Manager

Join our growing team

As a growing, fast-paced agency, McLellan Writing Team is seeking a content manager to help ensure editorial excellence across a wide range of creative marketing projects. As content manager, you will help oversee our writers and designers, provide editorial and strategic support, and collaborate with a strong team to deliver the high-performing content our clients expect.

Since 1994, McLellan Writing Team has delivered enterprise-class marketing content for many of the technology companies on the Fortune 500. Join our team and bring your superior communication skills, your servant leadership, your creative spark, and your mastery of deadlines and schedules to deliver top-quality content for some of the largest technology companies in the world.

This role requires someone who excels in editing, writing and project management, who has a high comfort level with highly technical content, and has demonstrated experience with all of the above. This is a full-time, fully remote position.

What you will do:

  • Provide editorial support and project guidance to our writing and design teams to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality content that addresses clients’ needs.
  • Assess client-provided supporting content and resources to kick-start the writing and editorial process.
  • Edit and revise written content drafts and design proofs across the buyer’s journey to ensure assets combine enterprise-class storytelling with technology expertise.
  • Mentor and coach freelance and in-house writers, designers and editors in a confident, respectful and supportive manner — knowing that their success is your success.
  • Assign projects to freelance writers and designers — while managing their availability, their areas of expertise and clients’ deadlines — to keep projects on schedule.
  • Edit and write copy on deadline using your creative eye, superb research skills and sophisticated yet highly accessible writing style.
  • Ensure the consistent application of clients’ style and branding guidelines to every asset, suggesting improvements where relevant.
  • Work with the Senior Content Manager and other members of the editorial team to strengthen current writer relationships, and attract/onboard new writers.
  • Review and approve freelancer invoices, and assist in accurate invoice tracking in coordination with our bookkeeper.
  • Raise the bar for our team in at least one area — maybe it’s SEO, maybe it’s writer relationship building or maybe it’s creative problem solving.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience writing and editing marketing content across the buyer’s journey for global technology enterprises (e.g., articles, blogs, e-books, whitepapers, video scripts, social media, email, brochures, web copy, etc.).
  • 5+ years of experience managing writers or similar creative professionals. Agency experience is a plus.
  • Professional, diplomatic manner and superb people skills; ability to build rapport and effective working relationships.
  • Strong communication skills; you’re consistent in written and verbal communications across different content topics and formats.
  • Ability to deliver constructive criticism and positive feedback on various types of content, empowering and exciting others to continue to improve and grow.
  • Ability to work independently, be self-directed and thrive while collaborating with a fully remote team.
  • Close familiarity with AP Stylebook, Chicago Manual of Style and other style guides, as well as with branding and marketing guidelines.
  • Familiarity with content management and project management systems. Experience with Teamwork is a plus.
  • Understanding of project management best practices and problem-solving strategies.
  • Unending curiosity and desire to expand your knowledge base.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree. English, communications, journalism, marketing or similar preferred.
  • Additional courses or programs in technical writing, marketing, computer science or business are a plus.

Benefits

  • Vacation
  • Paid holidays
  • Health insurance
  • 401(k) plan with company match
